Tornadoes in Deltaville, VA

This may be of interest to Hunter owners who have lived in or visited The Middle Peninsula of VA or have had dealings with Nortons or other marinas or yards in the area.

Gloucester County and the Middle Peninsula, (Middlesex County, home of Norton's Yacht Sales), were hard hit this weekend by those storms roiling the East. Two were killed in Gloucester.

I live not far from there, so I decided to go down and see how the area fared.

We were not permitted to drive any closer than about two miles to town, but were allowed to walk in.I was gratified to run into Carolyn & Ken Schmalenberger, owners of Nortons. They did not have any damage nor did Stingray or the other marinas on the creek.

Many homeowners nearby were not so lucky...along Honeysuckle Lane homes were picked up & dropped into the creek.

We have a Hunter 33 at Stingray Point, also went down Sunday. The damage is like nothing I have ever seen. Most boats seem to be OK but many homes were not as
lucky.

I was stationed at Fort Eustis through the mid seventies and came to love the Virginia Pennisula and surrounding area. I wish all well as they grieve the deceased and begin the recovery process.

That is scary stuff. I bought my boat out of Deltaville and it is a cool place to cruise to. I hope all the people effected by this are okay.
