I'm in pretty much the same boat so to speak, as mine was painted by PO with who knows what...(probably a marine paint as I know he used brightside on the hull)
I did do a laquor thinner test on it (with no reaction) so I know it will hold up to most anything I would put over it...
I asked at the paint store where I'm getting my topside paint and they said as long as the base coat was consistent and the new was the same (white over white) I would be good with a good TSP wash, scrub with soft brush, and rinse well...Then the new top coat...
I had a couple spots I needed to touchup (moved tackle), the anchor locker and the fuel locker were not painted by PO and I rebedded my ports so I wanted to blend them in pre paint...
So I bought one quart of matching (brand and color) primer and did all my touchups and will be doing the total topcoat this weekend...Rolling it and backbrushing or "tipping" it on..
