I have just brought home an 86 Hunter 23. It has the Kenyon mast and boom. The previous owner ran the topping lift from the masthead through the boom on one of the kenyon reefing lines, which I assume was not what they were used for. I would like to know the correct routing for a topping lift on this rig. Thanks, John

It sounds right

The Kenyon boom on most H23's had three sheaves at the end. From port to starboard they are for the topping lift, outhaul and reefing line. The three stoppers under the boom at the gooseneck are for these three lines. With all the lines close at hand you can raise, lower and reef the mainsail from the mast. Pulling on the topping lift at the mast will raise the boom. Congrats on the new boat! Peter H23 "Raven"

Don't forget....

...to leave the topping lift slack with the main hoisted.
