Has anyone installed a topping lift for the main on an O'Day 222. If so, how did you do it? I don't care for the way the boom attaches to the backstay.
I installed one on my '22 a couple of years ago. I used (about)3/16"-1/4" line thru a (about) 1" block affixed to the back of the mast-head and then down to a cleat at the base of the mast. Entire thing couldn't have cost me more than $25-30. I got tired of hauling up the main single-handed with it essentially sheated tight to the back stay.
Haven't made one for the O'day yet (just got it about 3 - 4 weeks ago). For the previous boat, I just went to Lowes and got a couple of stainless eye-bolts, washers, and wing nuts.Slid one to the top of the mast track and one to the back of the boom track and tighened them down.Worked well for me. Good luck.--Hise
