Topping Lift

Has anyone installed a topping lift for the main on an O'Day 222. If so, how did you do it? I don't care for the way the boom attaches to the backstay.

Toping Lift

I installed one on my '22 a couple of years ago. I used (about)3/16"-1/4" line thru a (about) 1" block affixed to the back of the mast-head and then down to a cleat at the base of the mast. Entire thing couldn't have cost me more than $25-30. I got tired of hauling up the main single-handed with it essentially sheated tight to the back stay.

Hise - O'day 20

$15 topping lift

Haven't made one for the O'day yet (just got it about 3 - 4 weeks ago). For the previous boat, I just went to Lowes and got a couple of stainless eye-bolts, washers, and wing nuts. Slid one to the top of the mast track and one to the back of the boom track and tighened them down. Worked well for me. Good luck. --Hise
