I have just aquired a 1993 Hunter 23.5 and am rigging it for the first time. The boat does not have a topping lift and no position at the top of the mast to install one. There are three lines running through the boom and one of them is for the topping lift, but what does it connect to? When I lower the sale what holds up the boom?

The 23.5 came with a short tang that hangs off the back stay if you pull the line at the boom it raises and lowers boom a little so u can pull sail up and release it to go sailing

Take a look at section 2.2.3 entitled "Boom Topping Lift" in the attached custom Hunter 23.5 manual.
Thank you! This is helpful. It appears that I must install a topping lift from the top of the mast (first - find a way to attach it there).

You had asked about how the topping lift in the boom works.... Mine is set up this way also. It works like this....
