Topping Lift Catches Mainsail Batten

I would very much like to know if other Hunter 430 owners have a problem raising the mainsail. I have to keep the sail to starboard in order not to catch the batten in the topping lift line. It catches about two-thirds of the way up. I also have a problem with the electric winch - it cuts out periodically and can only be used in pulses. I had a mechanic "repair" the problem by installing a new winch motor at great expense but the only difference with the new motor is that thought it still cuts out it will eventually get the sail up. Any thoughts?

Install a Tuff Luff

Had a great deal of problem raising the sail on our 460 with full batten main. Installed a Tuff Luff from Tides Marine and I can now pull up the main 80% of the way by hand and then finish with the electric. Its an easy do-it-yourself install.
