I have a 1978 HC 33, and I hate using the topping lift. I have been reading about boom kickers and would appreciate any information from owners who have done away with their topping lifts, and installed boom kickers. What model did you use and where is the best place to buy one. Are you satisfied with the boom kicker? The HOW chandlery lists them for about $40 less and Defender. Any help will be appreciated.

Ridged Boom Vang
I added a ridged boom vang two years ago. It is the best addition I have made to my 1980 33. I would recommend one to you. Please see the link below. I have a Garhauer, but others should work as well. This option is much cleaner than a boom kicker and vang combination. I left my topping lift on the boat, tied to the side in the chance that it maybe useful in securing the boat for a storm.
