It wasn't so funny at the time, but hindsight is 20/20 and the cold weather probably helps, too. Last summer we had taken my stepdaughter, her boyfriend, other friends and baby brother (14 months old)Alex out on Narragansett Bay in our Catalina 30. Due to the tide, we had to grab a mooring upon our return. A week later, I announced to my wife that I needed to move the boat back to our slip. She insisted that she and Alex would love to go and maybe take a quick spin on the water. I relented and we went. After about 30 minutes, Alex decided he had had enough of being restrained from his proper place as 1st mate (including adjusting the throttle as we motored back). Upon our arrival at the dock, my wife had to go forward to toss the bow line to our dock helper. That left me in a "Kodak moment": Screaming baby in his PFD in my right arm, the tiller in my left hand, using my left foot to adjust our speed! As my wife went up the dock to dry land with baby, one of our club members who witnessed our docking told her he was "impressed." What do I do for an encore: dock blindfolded in a gale?
