Top of Mast Sheaves Removal

Has anyone with a 350,351 or 352 ever replaced the sheaves at the top of the mast. Just going to look in the US Spars manual but while at the boat and the mast down, I couldn't figure out how to remove the sheave shafts. There are no obvious openings except through the top. They don't move!

Also ,did you replace them with the nylon or alum ones.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Joker460,

We have a B321 and took the sheaves out a year ago.
On ours, there is a pin that goes thru them (2 sheaves) and the pin is just a press fit into the groove.
Not sure if yours is the same.
US Spars can offer advice if you call them.

Thanks Cymeyer.
I sent an email to US Spars today. I went down and took another look. It looks like the axles go into a tappered slot. I have included a picture.

Looks like the same as ours.
These are a press fit into that groove.

They pop out quite easily with a gentile movement of a screwdriver...

@ Cymeyer, I just got an email back from US Spars and he confirms your prognosis.

I just got a quote back from RigRite to replace 8 sheaves with alum ones. I didn't realize they were that expensive. $450 for them.

Did you replace yours with the same plastic ones? It would be a lot cheaper?

Joker460,

I did not replace any sheaves yet.
There was one that was worn, but there was an unused sheave next to it so I used the spare one.
We will replace them next time we step the mast. This was the first time in 14 years that we stepped the mast.
