I am vrey interested in finding out about toplifts for a 25' 0'Day.Wen I purchased my boat I was unaware that there was a toplift required. At the present time there is a line that is secured the top of the mast and is just long enough to be secured to the kleet that is attached to the side of the boom. What I am looking for is information on if there is a more efficent way to secure the boom ?

TopLifts

I have a topping lift that is attached to the end of my boom, just above the outhaul on the boom. They share the same andcap on the boom.I need to replace my topping lift this winter, but it does work for now.I placed a copy of the recommended mast raising systems that O'day suggested on the web site, in the manuals link.Hope this helpsEJ TewsJennifer Lea

Make It Adjustable

A nice feature is an adjustable topping lift, especially from the cockpit. Run a halyard from the boom end (I have a carabiner on my halyard, boom end) up to the top of the mast and through a block attached to a bail or eye strap, then down to the base of the mast through another block and run towards the pit. It allows you to adjust the boom height from the cockpit and to loosen it off while under sail.The topping lift can also be used to adjust sailtrim, specifically the leech, for low wind conditions.Don

adjustable toplifts

My 25 has an adjustable toplift (I know that becasue I asked Don what the hell the thing is and he told me). Mine appears to be directly attached to the top of the mast. (I haven't been up there and can't see how it is attached.) It is a thin wire with and eye on the lower end. There is a block at the end of the boom through which a thin line runs. The line has an eye and a shackle connects the two. The line then runs trhough the block and along the boom towards the mast to a cleat. You adjust it by the line along the mast. The "shackle" is not quick release. When I loosen the line it seems to allow enough play so that the lift doesn't rub (to its detriment) on the sail. This seems less complicated than another halyard. There may be problems I'm not aware of. There usually are.Later,Mike
