I posted this a little while ago but it did not seem to go through. I bought a hunter 23 from a broker which was a sailor but not familiar with all the details or the 23. we raised the mast and took the boat out for a trial, then i noticed there was no line on the back of the mast for the top lift. I put the boom on and noticed that there were three ropes in the boom. one obviously is to tighten the foot of the sail, i assume 1 is for the top lift, and the other, i have no idea. Is it set up correctly and what are the ropes for. I guess you have to attach the top lift to the top of the mast before raising it. I would have thought the top lift would stay attached to the mast for ease of rigging, but i don't know, i'm new to sailing.

The three lines on my 19850 h23

I’m pretty sure that the three lines on the boom near the mast on my 1985 23 are the main outhaul, the reefing line, and the topping lift. I usually leave the topping lift attached to the top of the mast so I don’t forget it like I did the second mast stepping thus having to lower the mast again. Hope that this helps.
