Greetings Peggy and those that enjoy discussing sanitation system woes. As I've indicated in earlier posts, my new system stinks. The whole thing is brand new from soup to nuts. After two seasons it has begun to stink. I have flushed and rinsed many times. Have used various blue treatments and it still stinks. I read Peggys view on the importance of venting and I believe mine is adequate. I'm wondering if my problem might be the side fittings on my tank. Obviously waste is perpetually lying in the outlet hose. I suspect my hose is permeated and the only solution is to replace the hose. While at it, I'm thinking of trying to install a top fitting with stand pipe and capping off the old outlet. Any advise? Yes, Peggy I will buy your book, but we must keep this our little secret. Everyone knows that plumbing systems are like power tools...a guy thing. I have a reputation to maintain you know:) Don

Odor inside the boat? or only out the tank vent?

If you have odor inside the boat, the tank isn't the culprit. So nothing to you do to the tank is gonna cure the problem. It may be your hoses, or it may just be a bilge and sumps that needs cleaning--a REAL cleaning, followed by rinsing all the dirty water out. A wet dirty bilge can smell just like a sewer...so can a wet dirty sump. My guess is, it's both. Clean your bilge first...even if your hoses have permeated, I suspect you'll be amazed at how much better your boat smells. And when the bilges are clean, it's lot easier to identify the sources of other odors. For more details spend some time searching the archives for previous discussions about odor, their sources and how to cure 'em. Lord knows there's been plenty of discussion on the subject!

In cabin and lazerette

I've had my face right down in my bilge and that is not the source. The smell is in the head and the lazerette locker where the tank and most of the hoses are. The smell has destinct fermented urine aroma.

Then it's most likely permeated hoses

Replacing the hoses with SeaLand OdorSafe hose should solve your odor problem.
