I know most of us on here are sailors, but I feel that even motor yachts should have the tiniest bit of form and grace. Who could possibly imagine that these things would be built and operated by folks who could afford anything? Is taste something that one loses as the bank account grows?
I'm sorry, but neither of the two vessels pictured below do anything for me except make me want to cry. All that money for the ugliest vessels I've ever seen.

Saw the first boat about 3 weeks ago. It's Steve Jobs Venus. It looks better in person but not by much.

I don't much care for the late Mr Jobs' iBoat (first pic), but the second one is kind of attractive in an "Ah, Mr Bond - I've been expecting you" sort of way.

Yeah the first one is just ugly - calligraphy or not. The second, while not my cup of tea, is more attractive. They are somewhat modest given his resources. Nevertheless, neither is doing him any good now.

At the risk of offending some here, the same could be said of many current sailboat designs obviously drawn with straightedges.

Isn't it interesting how most 'coffee table' books of beautifully photographed sailboats are nearly always of vintage craft with gracious curves?

(1) Fortunately, we don't all want or like the same type of boat. As long as they don't "wake me" they may use any big boat they choose.

(2) Fortunately, we don't need to pay their fuel, slip, or haul out costs!

(3) Fortunately, we don't need to wax those hulls or clean those bottoms.

(4) Fortunately, if you aspire to that type of yacht the state lotteries are still in operation.

To me both of them would look better painted battleship gray. Then they would sort of resemble an 1890's pre-drednought battle wagon. kinda.

Damn the torpedoes!

Just think how many people were put to work building and supplying material for those boats and how many people keep them sailing and provisioned. At 4 dollars a foot for transient dock space it is wonderful for a marina.

I agree, some folks indeed have too much money.


The boats pictured are probably by Perini Navi, an Italian yacht designer by the name of Sergio Perini started this line in 1983. I came across his designs about 15 years ago.


Having been in the design field for years myself, I checked him out. There was nothing like his designs then. Just for the sake of seeing some of his stuff, is well worth it. Over the years, I've seen his influence in production sail & power boats too.


C'mon, be honest if you had oodles of more money that you could spend illogically, you would,...........I know would.


I would, and his would be the first ones I looked at.

Who would have thought a blend of modern/minimalist/Norwegian melding of designs.
