tongue Wt

It' is important to make sure the TW is enough to keep the load from "fishtailing" but not so much that the tow vehicle squats too much. Your first step should be to weigh your load. Weighing your boat on a commercial scale is the easiest way to do this but you can also do it with a bathroom scale using this link as a guide: http://www.rverscorner.com/tongueweight.html The recommended tongue weight range for trailers is 9-12 percent. Ten percent is a good number to shoot for. If you still get trailer fishtailing or squatting on your tow vehicle you can experiment with adjusting the load. Some actions to get within the recommend range include lightening the load, redistributing the load, moving the axe(s) front or back, installing a weight distributing hitch, or beefing up tow vehicle rear supension. A 22' O'day should be around 2,800 lbs

and a tongue weight of 250 lbs should be fine provided the weight is properly distributed in the axles. Do not forget to check the manufacturer's recommendation for the tow vehicle as far as tongue weight and the condition of the rear suspension. A trailer with brakes is recommended for that weight. It can be easy to pull but very hard to stop.
