Where?

Hi John, I saw this graphic on Latitude 38 but I am wondering if there is a site for downloading weather charts like this. Chuck

the gales of November

We've had Gale force winds for the past month? Observations for yesterday at the Souther Georgian Bay Buoy, 25 - 30 knots sustained wind with gusts to 40 knots. Waves 8 to 13 feet.... and lots of snow. Gotta get the skiis out and tuned up, the slopes are starting to open. !!!

on a serious note, Fred...

...I just watched the news about this storm hitting your area. Whole towns under water. A woman from Seattle said that this was the worst storm she's seen in decades. Storms like this are why my colleagues who teach Environmental Studies at the university level tend to prefer talking about "climate change" rather than "global warming." Sure, we can all handle a couple more degrees celsius, but how many of these storms can you take back-to-back? The reality is that once you heat the oceans up a degree or two, you increase the power of storms exponentially. I realize that there are a number of people on this site, including a notable powerboater who shall go unnamed, who will howl that this is a political issue rather than a nautical one, and that the discussion should be banished to the sail locker. But the fact is that the window when sailors can safely venture offshore in the Eastern Pacific becomes shorter and shorter each year. You and I, Fred, have to realize that climate change is a boating issue. The TV weather guy says that there's a storm with even more moisture following on the heels of this one. What he didn't say is that we all better get used to this pattern. Our new climate is already here.
