I need to replace, not the shearpin, but the clip that goes through the prop and holds the prop tight against the post that the prop mounts on. Can I use a shearpin here? Am I making sense? By the way its a 3.5 hp 2 stroke.

Do you mean the cotter pin?

call a Tohatsu dealer and tell the what you need.

I think that is the shear pin.

I have the same motor. A stainless steel cotter pin holds the cone onto the shaft and the prop form fallin off. The shear pin is approximately 1" long and goes through the shaft. the prop has a cut out that the pin sits in. This is the "sear pin" that attempts to protect motor & propeller when you hit something.

Yes, its a cotter pin.

Get the a stainless steel one. The correct size should fit in the hole with just a bit of play and go through the prop. Cutter pins are one time use; if you take it out replace it. Pass it through the hole and then split and bend the ends back into a "T". In order to protect these plastic props the shear pins are quite light so keep some spare ones as well as cutter pins and a pair of plyers.
