Toerail addition

Has anyone seen or known of someone who has added toerail to a 272? I have a 1986 boat and wondered about replacing the teak trim strips that run between the lifeline stanchions with toerail. The teak is in repairable shape, but it would be so handy to have a place to lash things or connect shackle blocks to for spinnaker sheets, etc. (Not to mention having less teak, that is only serving a decorative function as far as I can tell, to mess with.) Is adding non-continuous toerail a bad idea? Would it work to bed it in and attach it with screws instead of bolting it through with backing washers and nuts under the deck? Thoughts from experienced salts to point out what I'm missing would be great. Thanks!

No, to anwser you question. One thing to note or be cautious about is that if you lash things to as you suggest (not a bad idea), will the srews be enough to hold it? If you attach a extra water tank or cooler it may be ok, but if you connect shackle blocks to for spinnaker sheets, you may need to bolt it as opposed to just using screws....Good Luck
