Toe Rails

I recently read an article on this site that referred to refinishing the black aluminun toe rails to there original color. I could not locate the response in the archives. Could anyone give me advice on restoring the rails to original color/luster without using paint. I understand there are some other options for refinishing the metal.

Acetone

Acetone on a rag did the trick for my rails. A quick wipe down and I am "back in black" the dusty residue wipes right off.

I remember posting to a similar issue once before. I did my toe rails using 3M's Fiberglass Cleaner Wax. Had good results. Needs it every season though. I believe, actually I used it, there is something in the auto industry that is geared to restoring the black color of door handles, mirrors, etc. It was pretty good also ..... just can not remember what it was.
