hey everyone, I was wondering if any of you have been to the tobermory, georgian bay region?

I'm currently in the planning stage for my summer holidays and tobermory might be one of three possible destinations, the two others are the thousand islands and less likely the ottawa river from Ottawa to Montreal.
I've never been to the tobermory region and I'm wondering what the conditions are like
thanks in advance
Fred

We enjoyed our visit to Tobermory. We did have high winds and waves from the west for a day, but there was plenty to do in Tobermory.

Tobermory is just one day from the North Channel, the best cruising grounds in the world, in our opinion!

Used to spend every weekend there (Back in the 80's). Not sailing but diving. There are some pristine wrecks there and in deep water. The waves can be rough around the point. Lots of hidden rocky shoals. Weather can change quickly.

I've been meaning to go there to dive as well
Keep in mind the water is very cold, all year round. Lots of thermoclines.
The most fun wreck to dive on is the "Forest City". It's a 1870 cargo ship. She came out of the fog at full steam and careened into Bear Rump Island and sank after a few weeks. The bow is in 60 feet and the stern is at 155 feet. It's a decompression dive but you can find weight belts, watches etc. The visibility is excellent but not as good as the Bahamas. The wreck is in great condition.
There are many more.

Love Tobermory. Nice little town and a good harbor. Around 4th of July it gets crowded for about 4 to 6 weeks. Not impossible but busy. Good launch ramp downtown with trlr storage across the road. Easy day sail to empty Club Island or Rattlesnake Isl. North Channel is outstanding, if you have the time.
