-- not to whip is the question. I've always whipped the ends of my lines but while surfing the New England Rope site (neropes.com) I found their slicing instructions for splicing double braid which includes the back splice. This splice finishes the end of the line without the need to whip or heat (melt) the end. The method is similar to the eye splice but MUCH MUCH easier to tie. I tied one and the finished product looks GREAT (much better than my eye splice)! The question is: has anyone had experience with this end treament and how does it stand up compared to whipping?

Heating is sufficient

The key is to get a clean hot cut, continually cleaning the soldering end with a bronze wire brush.
