Dan we have three bridges up stream from us that

serve as ice breakers so during a bad winter none of the chunks that come down are much more the ten or twelve feet across and only about six inches thick. When the river rises they don't move more than three or four miles an hour. They probably don't weigh over five maybe six hundred pounds. Some folks would think that that is better than taking your chances on the hard. We haul out every fall and put in every spring. Wet storage is only about 400 dollars less that haul out pressure washing blocking with steel jack stands and spring launch.

I worked on my 27 for two years in the yard next to Owens before launching and moving it to North East in '01. I didn't know the bridges had that much effect on the ice. The cut between Garrett and the shore is quite deep and the current flows pretty swiftly through there so I assumed the ice would constitute a serious problem. I know Owens and Charlie would pull their floating docks to avoid loss. I didn't visit the boat for very long in the winter there so didn't see any ice floes!
