To Get a Sailboat, or Not... That is the question.

Thanks again everyone. Not many clubs here since we are on the Potomac River. If we were on the Chesapeake it would be a different story. I called around this week and wet slips in the area go from $1500-$2000/yr. That seems to be the norm for Northern Virginia. Of course the cheaper one is on the far side of a RR bridge that I'd have to lower the mast to pass under!
That's only about $6.5/ft/mo. That's a deal. Buy the boat; get the slip for the summer; try it out! Reduce the hassle factor to a minimum. What's worse, a boat you bought sitting in your yard depreciating day by day and having little or no fun with it after a while, or having it in a slip and having fun with it? Sailing on your own boat is the highest quality fun. In my opinion it's worth every dime I've spent on it.

First summer we had our 18 ft boat, trailering and rigging every trip :8 trips out (I keep my float plans and count `em)
Next summer, boat rigged on the trailer in the marina: 26 trips.
Makes weeknight after work dinner runs possible, coming back in moonlight was awesome!
