Aloha I have a 71 Catalina 27 with a Atomic 4 I heed to change the motor mount and also I need to pull the prop shaft out. Do I need to drop the rudder to remove the the shaft ? Thanks moebetta
I think you will have to drop the rudder. I had my cutlas (sic?) bearing and prop shaft replaced last spring, and they had to drop the rudder to do it. I don't think it was a big deal, but it is a two-person job.Phil DeckerS/V Catmandu1982 Catalina 27 TR A4 Trad.
I did my cutlass, put a new sst shaft in, flex coupler, and PSS shaftseal a few years ago without droping the rudder. I forget which way it goes, but if you turn the wheel over a little in each direction, you should find a spot where the shaft BARELY slips by. If you are able to remove the cutlass with the shaft in, you will definetly have the clearance.
