We left SD about 7PM hoping for a nice sunset, rounded bouy 3 and set the GPS/autopilot for avalon. Motorsailed throught the night. Wind was nil, ocean flat. Took 12 hours. we were tied to a mooring and taking a well desserved nap by 0800. I've done the trip via Oceanside also. Its about 3-4 hours shorter going direct to avalon. Considering the time difference and an extra nite on catalina vs. Oceanside I'll go direct next time too. Trip back was 13 hrs. Left about 10AM, hoping for a broad reach going back. Wind was OK for a few hours then died. Ended up motorsailing with a 5-6 kt following breeze. Saw 100's of dolphin, 4 whales and caught 6 good size bonita. Great trip back. If you have specific Q's my email: rfrye1@cox.net Bob

Great...

Want to do that run myself one day. But my preference would be from O'side (where I live) and not Chula Vista (where my boat is). I will have to get more info from you at a later date. I saved your email address.

Bob, Thanx

I think we'll do that also next time. What about the wine did you get to Two Harbors?

Two Harbor Wine Fest

They had abt 30 differnt wineries, some very good. Found a new Zin that I loved and met the winery owner and bought 6 bottles from him. Small producer abt 1000 cases per year. Should try it next year. I'll be there for sure. Bob.
