To cover or not to cover...

Cover it

Do you get a lot of snow there? I would cover it. I've been told the composite doesn't like UV rays. I would suggest getting one of the silver heavy duty tarps from Northern Tools,it's only about 30 bucks. The 16X20 works great. If you drop the mast, the tarp will cover the whole boat and most of the mast. If you don't drop the mast, you can easily cut the tarp to fit around the mast and shrouds. By the way, are any of your friends looking for a 170? I have a 2000 model that is like new for sale.

Hi Jeff

Give the old pro a holler. If you get a cover, make sure it is white or grey with vents. Heat from dark cloth covers is not good on these boats. If you use the mast which I do not recommend, best you support it in many areas if draping a cover over it; othewise, make several braces across the boat. Crazy Dave Condon

I had a cover made

I recently had a tarp made for mine. I live in Michigan where we get a fair amount of snow. I removed the mast and have it hung diagonally accross my garage ceiling. All other removable parts, sails, etc, are stored in my basement. I went to a tarp and awning company and had them make a tarp to my dimensions (not a boat cover, mind you, although they can do that as well...this is less expensive because it wasn't form-fitted). They we out of light grey, so I ordered mine in light tan. That worked nicely and covers the hull and winch. I also made sure that I wiped every last drop of water out of the boat and tipped the trailer back to allow all the water to drain out of the channel through which the roller furling line passes through the hull. There was a fair amount of water in there, which presumably could have frozen, expanded, and cracked something.

interested in the 2000 model 170

I would be interested in the Hunter 170 2000 model if you still have it for sale. What is the price? Do any accessories come with it?

Thanks

I have a Grey Tarp that I can use. I guess I better construct some braces for the mast.
