Took the Venture 25 to Catalina for New Years. Awesome trip.
Definatley got passed up by all of the bigger, heavy displacement
boats on the way, but never the less, we made it :)

Catalina Part 1
Sailing to the island across 24 miles of open ocean infested with man-eating dolphins.

It's pretty cool when you can sail to Catalina from a desk in Houston ,Texas. Nice little trip.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Good job with the video. It looks like you had a good sail over too. Kind of makes me want to sail there but it is a bit far from the East Coast! LOL

Great video

Joel thanks for sharing your video! I have a Mac 25 and want to do something similar. I want to cross Lake Ontario someday. After watching your video, I'm getting excited about traveling on it. Did you sleep on the boat?

Sleeping in a light displacement boat moored in a very open harbor was quite a ride!

Thanks for all of the replies, guys.
We definately got lucky with that trip.
Hopefully planning on going back in Spring
when I have more time off.

Until then, maybe Newport Harbor?
I can get there and back in a weekend :)

Newport Harbor is great. Wife and I took a gondola ride there last Monday for her birthday. The gondolier gave a pretty informative tour. The houses there run from 2 mil to 35 mil for Terrible Herb's digs. He bought it from Nicolas Cage who paid 28 m for it. Herb's bought it because it is the only dock that will accommodate his big ass boat. The moorings there are only $5/ night and there are plenty of them. You can also drop anchor in the harbor for free. We want to sail there for 4th of July. Spring break is also suppose to be a good time if you like bikini clad young ladies running around. Let me know when you go I might use your slip (if its cool with you) to overnight on the way down.
I'll post some picts when I get home they are in my camera.

Sweet videos, thanks.
One of my winter projects is to make an Anchor Riding Sail to keep my her from swinging like a top while moored. I haven't overnighted yet but think it might fix a bit of the roller coaster effect, see any of them used by you?

Greg,

I saw nothing of the sort, but it does sound like a fantastic device. You haven't overnighted, yet? I think that's the best part of sailing somewhere. Sleeping on the boat. Even on a rollercoaster mooring, it has this sense of freedom.

Frank,

Yes, bikini clad Orange County girls sound like a very good thing. We will stay in touch on this. I think it would be funny if you used my slip. Playing practical jokes on the marina staff. They need it :)
