My new to me O'day 272 was painted in May of 06. Launched in late June of 06 and pulled out in late October of 06. The boat lives in brackish water and came out pretty clean in Oct. Do I need to repaint or can I just touch up a bit and wait till the 08 season? I've got tons of other stuff to attend to and would love to put this one off. Rich

Is the paint a

Multi season paint. If not you could still get away with it! Just sand the black dried slime off brfore you put her in.

What Kind/brand of paint

Rich- It all depends on what kind/technology of paint that was applied in May of 06'. If it is not a multi season and dont find the time to paint it. All you have to do is scrub the bottom every other week or just expect to lose some knots. Powerwash at seasons end. I really think you could find an hour to slop some on. Its a hell of a lot easier than getting in the H2O bi-weekly.Rob Hessenius

Please paint the bottom..ease!

I had a brand new Nordica 20 continuously in the fresh water of Georgian Bay for four months back in '78 without any bottom paint at all. OH MY GOD..it took three weeks with a sander to get the crusty little bast---s off that gel coat..and when I sold that boat to the next guy it was with a new coat of TBT-type (tetra-butyl-tin) antifouling paint. It was still OK after three years, but TBT is illegal now. Too toxic on fish, they say.

If you keep your boat in the Hudson

I would suggest that it is less brackish than you might think. We keep our boat up at Nyack and still get attacked by barnacles if the bottom paint job is not up to their liking. They especially love attaching to the brass propellor so check this before the water gets cold again. I would put another coat of ablative paint on (if that is what is currently on your hull). It has worked well for us.
