To Arch or Not To Arch

Recently the subject of creating an arch for the H26 came up, and several people seemed to express an interest. As with the 'big boats', the idea of having a convenient place for a traveler, moving the main sheet out of the cockpit traffic flow, etc. seemed attractive. I was wondering if anyone had pursued this any further? After some time spent sitting in my cockpit visualizing how it mit fit/work, I see that the biggest obstacle would probably be that due to size and placement of the boom, the arch would probably have to sit lower than I might want while in the slip. (I'm not a tall guy, but I think I'd even bump my head on occasion. I gave thought to making it movable/adjustable to handle the sailing/slip requirements. So am I just wishful thinking? Am I a small boat owner with big boat dreams? Probably, but was curious if anyone else had given this any thought since it was mentioned earlier. T J

Anxious to hear replies.

I surely don't want to loose my Bimini but I like the idea of an arch.

Similar conclusion

I was speculating about this in these forums a while back. I now see the head height problem as a deal killer. Unless the boom were to be raised at least a foot, the arch would be a hazard, and raising the boom would adversely affect the sailing performance of the boat, IMO. I'd love to hear a way to resolve these problems.

I've Thought About it for My 23.5

What I decided would be best would be to have it at the same height as the boom and behind it. Doubt there will ever be one on my boat but it is a nice daydream project.

I've been thinking about it

I'm 6 ft 5 inches and hit my head on everything anyway - so why not?
