My Hunter 25 has a real probem with swinging on its mooring. I moor it all season long and this issue is untwisting mooring penants. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love the boat but if I cant solve this problem I guess it will be traded in for a Catalina 25. Thank you very much in advance.

Swinging on a mooring has solutions

While I don't have it, there are more than a few ideas for solving this in these archives. I own a 260 and considered a small anchoring sail off the stern for the nights I anchor out. Mooring complications are a more permanent issue and won't be solved by trading the boat as many other high freeboard boats deal with this too. I'm sure you'll get better leads and encouragement than mine but don't be discouraged, there's a fix here I'm sure. Michael 2004 H260 s/v "Plan B"

Have you thought..

about using a swivel? My 3/4 inch top chain connects to the bottom of a one inch swivel and my mooring pendant and ball connect to the top of the swivel. The boat can swing all she wants with a proper mooring set up..

Mike,

Put a swivel on the pennant so that it won't twist. Hunters are designed in such a way that the hull configuration will cause them to swing on their mooring. I haven't been able to figure a way to stop it. Although it doesn't bother me as much as it does other people.

Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I cant wait until spring to get the mooring issue all squared away and back out on the water.

What is a kellet

What is a kellet. It sounds like something that might help me solve my problem.

Anchor sail

Try an anchor sail. I had the same problem. Got me an anchor sail and it keeps the boat pretty straight into the wind. http://www.bannerbaymarine.com/ BTW, guys, I bought the Shaft Shark from A-B Marrine this summer--no more tangles! I recommend it!

Sorry Mike

I didn't see that you were already on a mooring. It will not help with a mooring. It's for sailing at anchor.

Catalina will swing too.

My Catalina 27 was a swinger on the mooring in a breeze too. The relatively high freeboard and light weight will make a Hunter swing even more. A light anchor (5 lbs mushroom type for a dinghy would work) thrown over the stern might slow things down when you're aboard.
