Just a important tip, With the current restrictions at State offices that handle boating registrations,, most all have went to online scheduling of appointments,, Here in Michigan, title transfers have to be in person via a scheduled appointment,, And the online SOS is booking appts now for JULY???????,,,, Wow, I better get going here,,,I went in personally to the local SOS,,, And they will not wait on you as a walk in....unless by chance, someone doesn't show,, I lucked out,,, although they only would schedule me the next available date, I got May 3rd,,, this was on April 8th.
If you have current registrations and titles,, no problem most all of that is done by mail or online, BUT title transfer are in person,, here in MI at least.

Your experience makes a good case for documenting a boat with the United States Coast Guard.

Same problem in VA, Diane has to renew her drivers license, made an appointment two weeks ago and the best she could get was April 23.

I think my boat registration expired this year, so I wonder if I can renew on line in Michigan...
Then How do car dealers get new cars registered for buyers? Temporary tags are only good for 7 days. Do dealers have the advantage of a standing appointment?

They do, just a truck driving schools have priority in getting their student's permits and driving tests.

This problem doesn’t exist here in Florida. I just re-titled a car the day after purchase. Same process, some system, same timing for boats, RVs, etc...

It’s all about local/state government

Also not an issue in California........just walk into the DMV...........no wait OR go to your nearest AAA, if you are member.

If you're in Michigan, the trick is to check for next day appointments after ~ 3:30 pm. Their database updates at ~ 3pm and things tend to open up after that, thought they do get snapped up quickly. The driver's ed instructor told us this when my youngest passed his test, and she was right -- had an appointment for 3 weeks out, checked at 3:30 and got one the next afternoon.

michigan has a next day appointment feature that works extremely well. You get on line around 8:00 am or a little after and they release a block of appointments for the next day. They also release a block of appointments around 1:00 for the next afternoon. You snag one and good to go. I used it 3 times last year
