That's FUNNY, Guy...I love it!

Trying to sort out how a toilet moves bowl contents for y'all is a whole seminar in itself. There is no siphon involved...and besides, the air vent in a vented loop only allows air into a line through which liquid is being pulled...it has no impact whatever on liquid being pushed through the loop. It's a shame that you weren't at the Annapolis show, because Raritan had working toilets in their booth with clear piping that sent water over a loop 6' high...you could have seen for yourselves that air CAN do it. "...but I still can't figure out why the air doesn't just bubble up instead of pushing the liquid the hose." Because the hose is full of water ahead of the air. Go to your local hardware store and buy a 6' piece of clear 1.5" ID hose...remove the head discharge hose from your toilet...put the clear hose on it...put some water in the bowl and start pumping in the dry mode. Have a bucket handy to catch the spill. Unless the seals and o-rings in your toilet are so worn that the pump no longer has anywhere near the "oomph" it was designed to have, you'll see that at least 90% of the water comes out of the hose at the top.
