Hi Mike

I'd give you my exact size except the boat and trailer are an hour away on the coast. I'm not even sure it would help because wheel and tire sizes vary. I found that five-lug 15-inch Ford pickup wheels fit my Magic-Tilt trailer perfectly. Then I went to the local tire store and ordered bias-ply trailer tires with the highest load rating (2500 lb each) that would fit the wheels. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Peter H23 "Raven"

6PR Load Range C (1820 lbs per tire), is what I have. Looks like Peter would prefer more load capacity, and I certainly won't argue with that. Mac

Peter thanks a lot . I was wondering about bias versus radial tires . Have you put any miles on it wth the bias tires ?? Take Care , Mike

More tire info

I checked my records and found the following: Trailer tires: 225 75 D15, each rated to 2510 lb at 65 psi max. Spare: ST 205 75 D15, rated to 1820 lb at 50 psi max. Both tire sizes are D rated (highest temp and speed rating) but I believe the wider tread and higher pressure of the main trailer tires give them a higher load capacity. All-up weight of the boat and trailer (with outboard and on-board equipment is probably somewhere around 3,000 to 3,500 lb. However, I like the extra security of the higher load capacity tires, as those ratings are at max tire pressure. If a tire develops a slow leak while you're on the road, the load rating will suffer without you even knowing it. I'm also curious as I was advised never to use radial tires on a trailer because their sidewalls aren't stiff so the trailer is more likely to sway. However, I see radial tires on LOTS of trailers being towed on the highway at speeds over 70 mph, so I would assume they work fine. Is it really OK to use radials? H23 "Raven"

I Think it Was True at One Time

I think that is old information. Newer radial trailer tires have stiffer sidewalls and are OK. http://www.championtrailers.com/tire_art.html

Interesting comparison

Based on the info Rick provided, it seems 225-75-15 tires have about the same load rating and price regardless of radial or bias ply construction. Peter H23 "Raven"
