Regarding the adapters, I measured my hub and rim inside diameter and the link I provided earlier did not have the adapter I needed. I tried some other numbers and finally found that a set of four is about $55 but the ones they provide are plastic.
My only expertise in trailers is having lot of trouble with them over the years.. but it seems that while you probably dont "need" the wheel hole to fit snug on the hub, it probably does decrease the odd's of losing a tire on the road - and Im all for anything which will decrease the odds since Im only going to have two tires on the trailer for a while. But a plastic spacer would probably deform so fast that its only purpose would be to center the tire when you are installing it - ie, no use for the problem Im trying to solve.
Im also probably going to replace the hubs at some point so for now, Im just going to have the lug wrench handy and check/tighten the bolts at least every time I get gas.
