I am planning on installing an x-5 wheel autopilot on my H28. I'd like to attach the autopilot to a ST40 wind instrument. Does anyone have experience installing the x-5? What suggestions can you offer regarding placement of the compass and/or control head? Any other tips regarding installation, cabling, and operation would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know what you mean by "attach the autopilot to a ST40 wind instrument." Place the compass in the center of the boat away from large metal parts and place the control module in a dry place accesible to wiring coming from the rudder position sensor and wheel motor. The control head panel is best positioned where it can be operated from the wheel position. Run wiring for power to a breaker switch in the electrical panel. Follow the instructions and you will have a 50-50 chance of hooking the motor wires correctly. If when first starting up the unit will only turn sharply in one direction then reverse the motor wires in the control module. I agree the hardest part of the job is figuring out where the components are best placed and running the wiring. Follow the instructions and take no short cuts.
