Hello All,

We are continuing to restore this 1978 Hunter Sailboat for use as a guest house in our backyard. We are interested in installing a new headliner this spring (see link below).

I am wondering if anyone has used it before? Any tips for removing old headliner (see pics)? Any tips for installing new headliner? What's the best adhesive to use? Any tips for how best to finish/terminate it? Any experience with keeping it clean?

Thanks in advance!

The head liner is fiberglass/gelcoat. Did you mean hull liner?
If so, I can't speak to the product you cited but... I did replace my hull liner 4 years ago.
The key to success is proper preparation.
Peel off the old liner, scrape the remaining glue/fuzz residue as much as possible.
Use a vacuum often and wear a mask, especially during the next step.
Sand the walls with 60 grit paper and clean with old rags and alcohol.
Then clean again with acetone on clean cloths. Change cloth often.
I used 3M spray adhesive and followed the directions on can or you can look at video instructions on "Sailrite.com" web site here:

Have fun!.

Oh BTW, you should remove the VHF radio to avoid possible mischief by guests.

Yes, hull liner! Thanks for the distinction - totally newbie here.
I sincerely appreciate your advice and link to the sailrite video. Thank you kindly.
I will also see about that radio.
Totally having fun with this beautiful boat. Can't wait to shine it up with the teak oil this spring and get the electricity/cable up and running.

I showed my wife the picture before she or I saw the text. She guessed it way before I did! Smart lady.
Very clever idea.
What plans to do you have to get it rocking a bit like at anchor, and do you have a stereo that can emulate the sounds of gently rushing water? :)
airBnB or H20bnb?

Hey Stu, Your wife is a very smart woman for sure! My family LOVES boats and the ocean, but unfortunately, I get quite sea sick so I am NOT a fan of the rocking, but the sound of waves is a great idea! The guesthouse was my husband's idea...we were looking for an old lobster boat for years. We were going to install through our front fence (like it crashed through) and put the back in our pool area with a deck. But when I found this beauty, for next to nothing BTW, we loved it so much that we cleared an area in our back yard so we could admire it from our family room. We are not going to rent it out...we'll just let our kids and friends use it. It came with a bimini top so we'll set up a deck off the back. I just had new sunbrella cushions made for the inside and vinyl cushions for outside. We saved the keel and mast in case we ever wanted to resurrect her but I have to tell you that after seeing her get lowered in on the hottest day of the summer last year, that's going to be a feat! Now we have to name her...maybe "Land Lover"? :)
