I'm thinking of buying a 1978 25 footer with a fixed keel. This will be my first monohull as I've spent all my sail time to date on a Hobie 16. Here's my question; If you ground her and let the tide leave her high and dry on a flat bar will she come back up tith the tide without swamping? Also what's your best reccomendation for sails (CHEAP!!!) Thanks for any input

Tippy but no problem

Depending on her keel (shoal or "deep") she will tip over pretty far if you let the tide ebb away from her. Things might come adrift in the cabin, but there the boat should take it fine. ebay is a place for really cheap used sails. But really good sails make a huge difference in enjoying your boat. So I hope you will at least consider a long term plan to get a good new set. You have a great boat - enjoy her! David Lady Lillie

I'm not sure I would want to let my deep keel '76 H25 lay on over on it's side. I'm sure she was not designed to support that type of load(although it is built like a tank. If she were to lay with the keel toward the incoming tide, she would probably come back up ok, the other way around, not to sure, as the breaking surf would be dumping right into the cockpit and if the companionway isn't closed well it could be really messy. For sails, check with Sailrite, they have been extremly helpful and have found their prices very reasonable, and if you feel like getting to really know your sails, buy a kit and sew them yourself. Go ahead and buy the H25, I have no regrets at all with mine.
