Time for new sails?

I should probably give more details about how the boat is being used and my experience though.
I've only been sailing for about a year and this is my first boat. It doesn’t have any electronics except the very basic's (depth, speed, and compass). I still have to check the thing at the top of the mast every so often to better trim the sails. I’m still learning how to "shape" the sails and will probably be doing so for some moths if not years to come to get it really dialed in.
So when looking at these options I ask myself what’s the minimal amount of money I need to meet my needs but also being wise about the long term "fix" but not more.
Some of the pricier options may help someone who is really experienced with a plethora of instruments to tell them exactly what point to sail. For me, it might be better spending some money on "other" instruments that assist me in sailing faster than some high tech sails? I don’t know.
I do like the option of finding some used sails that are a couple years old. I'll have to ask the local lofts also to see what kind of inventory they have. Couple hundred for a cleaning is pretty close to some of the used sails prices on usedsails.com.

If you haven't been sailing that long, and this is your first boat, all the instrumentation you really need is that thing at the top of the mast, and the telltales on the sails. (You do have those, right?) Save the money you would spend on instruments and put it into a decent set of sails. If you're on a budget, used is a good way to go, but I think you'll be surprised what an improvement better sails will be, especially going upwind. At least, that's my opinion.

Behind the wheel and certainly as the main trimmer, I spend a great deal of my time looking up. Though I look forward to us getting some high tech stuff sometime soon, I will always have that as my first instict, it simply serves me well.

High tech sails are not for you at this point. Spending money on instruments will not get you sailing better if your sails are shot and I suspect they are shot. I think you are better off forgetting instruments and put your money into sails. A boat with old, stretched out sails will never sail well and will impede your learning curve,.
I just took mine off and hand stitched the suncover back on. Took a couple of full days, but I did it over the winter. 2 years now and still holding strong. Cost = $15 in thread and needles. A couple of thimbles are essential.

Think I've been talked into buying new sails and not throwing good money after bad trying to refurbish a questionable old set.
FXSails have some pretty decent prices and about halve the prices of North Sails but I'm sure they are not as "Tech" but good enough for my needs.

I think you are very smart. You will really enjoy the difference you will notice; enjoy! and welcome to the $1000 club....... $1000 here, $1000 there... but it's so darn fun to get something for your money!!!
Just an FYI. I ordered a new sail from ************ 9 months ago and still haven't received it yet. I've tried to get my money back but can't get a reply. I heard on another forum that I'm not the first person this has happened to. (************)

Interesting. being a software developer by trade you can get around censorship stuff like that 6y d01ng s_t_u_f_f l.i.k.e t h i s. The algorithm to parse that is much harder.

Its interesting that it would be doing that though. Maybe enough people have been burned by them that the mods dont want there name to be used at all. Dunno.

The Sail Warehouse has cheaper prices on sails too and usually stocks stuff for Hunters. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a North, but....
I'm thinking someone probably issued a cease and desist letter from K-H sails to this and other sites as a result of something someone posted on them.
