Has anyone replaced the stock tiller with a wood one? I measured the stock one and none of the stock tillers at West or Boat US match up. It seams easy to make if I made the new one straight instead of trying to incorporate the curve the existing one has. Does anyone know why it is curved? I cant think of a reason. Sounds like a good winter project to me.

Curve

The curve allows clearance for the bimini when you leave it folded within it's cover and laid back. It also allows easier installation for a tiller pilot. I'm fortunate to have both and appreciate that curve.

I did on my 26

H & L does not have a stock tiller for the H26 and I doubt they have one for your boat either. They do, however make a beautiful custom tiller. I sent them the dimensions of my tiller and they made one. Only about $75 including shipping. Now, that said, the wood tiller broke the first time I used it in fairly heavy weather...3-5 foot seas (choppy) on Lake Ontario. I'm really glad I kept the aluminum original on board just in case. There may be a good reason Hunter starts us out with aluminum. H & L has been extremely accomodating and will be building me another (no charge) when I pull my boat for the winter. I'm going to ship them the original so they can dupe everything and beef it up. Good luck.
