Has anyone heard of a tiller to wheel conversion kit for a C22? Is it even possible? If so, where can I get one and can a do-it-yourselfer put it in?

Think a while on this one

Direct answer is that yes, you can get a system that from Edson that you can install yourself... Just go to their website for a ton of excellent information. That said: It will be expensive It will probably be a bit of a pain to install It will take up a lot of room in your small cockpit It will cut down on the 'feel' of the rudder...not a good thing on a small boat It will make it a bit more difficult to sail shorthanded without an autopilot It will require more maintenance and the ultimate irony...you will need an emergency tiller.

You can but

It will be less expensive to sell your boat and buy a C-27 with a wheel

Sailing alone with a wheel will be cramped.

I sail single handed about 90% of the time on my C22. If she had a wheel it would make the rear half of that cockpit very, very crowded and busy. Add the rear cockpit safety metal work and lifelines and it's even worse. Then you need to get to the outboard motor. A tiller you can step over, a wheel you'll simply cuss about. A item I've found quite useful is a tiller extender. Better yet, and cheaper than a wheel would be a auto pilot or in this case a tiller pilot. Whatever you do, just enjoy your C22. Ray
