Tiller Tamer mounting

I've seen quite a few post about using a tiller tamer, but very little on how it is mounted to the tiller. Since the tiller is round and the tamer is designed for a flat tiller mount, I am concerned that it will work its way free if I mount it without a shim of some sort. I've seen one boat with a plastic shim that transitioned from the round tiller to a flat surface for the tamer. I am considering trying the same trick with wood. Does anyone know of an adapter for our application?Secondarily, have you mounted cleats for the line or do you use some existing point. If you did mount cleats, what did you mount them too?

I Did Mine

Being round was not an issue for the tiller. I mounted jam cleats on either side of the transom. It comes in pretty handy sometimes.

Mount it upside down under the tiller, the geometery makes more sense. Mount jam cleats at +- 45' off to the setee aft area as high as you can to keep the geomtery correct.

When you mounted the jam cleats, did you back them with anything or just screw them into the bulkhead?

Hard to Get Under There

I just put a dab of silicone caulk down and screwed them right in the fiberglass. Not much pressure on them and most all of it is perpindicular to the screw. I forgot to mention mine is upside down also. In fact it uses the same screw as the tiller extension.

Stainless Steel Muffler Clamps

I bought two stainless steel muffler clamps of the same diameter as the tiller. Mounted a teak plate on them, then screwed the tiller tamer to the teak. The whole thing is mounted on the bottom side of the tiller. Its probably overkill, but it looks pretty cool. My jamb cleats are mounted the same as Ricks.

I agree with Rick and Steve. I mounted mine upside down and with cam cleats mounted on the transom. Only used screws for the cleats--works great.
