I've sailed my "new" 97 h26 five times now and (as often sugested in this forum)have found that a tiller tamer would be most helpful. My question: Have other h26 tiller tamer users found it necessary to drill holes for mounting the cleats? If so, what's the best location? If anyone's been able to avoid drilling holes, how did you do it? By the way, many thanks for the excellent responses regarding earlier questions I had on the topping lift and CDI furler...both issues have been resolved with the advice received here.

stainless steel hose clamps

I do not have a tiller tamer now but am considering and looking. With some types you have to drill, others secure to the tiller with hose clamps. I saw the ones with hose clamps in a Boat US store. I use a hose clamp to hold my tiller extension on as one of the screws stripped. It holds just as well.

Tamer cleats

I'm assuming you refer to cleats on each end of the line from the tiller. I put closed V-cleats under each stern rail seat.

Tiller Tamer help

Tim, Like you, I'm a new Hunter owner. Mine is a 1995 26ft and I wanted something to hold the tiller. I installed the Tiller Tamer and drilled holes for the cleats. I didn't think this was so bad. Use a sealant so they won't leak. If you just don't want to drill then tie the sides off to the rear rails. This works good too. Steve

attached to stern rails

I own a Hunter 240. I just installed a tiller tamer on it. I tied each end of the line to a small brass hook. I made a strap with nylon strapping and hook it onto the stern rail on each side. It works great!
