tiller rising with extension use

I'm using a tiller extension on my H26 but the tiller seems to rise upwards when extension in use, making it awkward. I've tried a bungee cord off the cockpit floor u-bolt to keep it down. This decreases some of the ease of unrestricted tacking. I'm considering another bolt through the upper plates of the rudder to prevent tiller from moving up, either above at tiller entry or below at back of rudder, same effect generally, but would prevent purposeful raising of tiller if alot of crew in cockpit. I've tightened the existing bolts of the rudder but still get rise. Any ideas? Thanks.

Same idea

Nelson, I will perform the same modification on my 26. The whole tiller/rudder assembly was a very poor design. I'm thinking a quick release pin at the top of the rudder plate assembly should do the job. I agree that the tiller lift while tacking is very annoying! Happy sailing! Pat
