I have a 74 ranger 33 with a lot of play in the tiller. I know for certain in needs a bushing or something along those lines to fix it. Has anyone out there had a simalar problem, and what did you do to fix it? I don't expect it will be to difficult of a fix but since I'm a few weeks away from doing it I thought I'd get some feed back. SS

I had a wobble in my rudder too. When I did the haul out and dropped the rudder it was dry of grease and the shim was 35mm film wrapped around the post! Part of the tiller post was also chafed through and had to be rebuilt. I have found that if I keep the post packed with grease there is no more wobble. The grease zerk is about 24" below the top of the post and is easy to get to and pump heavy duty grease into. Not really enough room for a shim. But if you need one check out this guy and his web site. Lots of useful info and ideas. http://www.teamwitchcraft.com

There were some conversations on the old sailnet forum about using plastic milk jug pieces as shims. The articles are all still there and searchable.
