I have some play in my tiller. I don't think it is in the rudder. Provided it is not in the rudder, does anyone have any idea how to fix this.

Here's what I did

Your problem may not be the same... I had slop where the tiller bolted to the frame and at the hinge bolt. I made shims out of thin aluminum and filled the gaps between the frame and the tiller then tightened the heck out of the hinge bolt (careful not to break it)enough for the hinge to support the weight of the tiller. I find I need to retorque the bolt every 10 times out or so. You should be able to see if these are where the play is in yours. Good Luck, enjoy the boat, it is a great sailing boat!

Same Thing

I had the same problem. Torqued the nut and it took care of it. If you need to tighten up - consider lubing the friction points to avoid a nasty squeaking sound. Rob

Speed Wobble

First I would verify that the tiller bolt and hinge bolt were tight. Next, check the rudder by trying to move the rudder fore and aft, and side to side. If you have play, it is very easy to fixed by dropping the rudder and wrapping the rudder post with a sheet of teflon. Put just enough wraps of teflon on the rudder post to make the rudder snug. good luck, bob
