Any thoughts about choosing either an Autohelm 1000 or a Simrad 10?
Thanks

I've only had 1 drama with the Autohelm and it was easy to fix after opening the unit, a belt had wound off the drive wheel, easily fixed - just need to check the 1000 is the correct size for your boat. You just want to make sure it doesn't get too wet (maybe in a plastic bag in extreme conditions).

I've heard bad things about the Simrad...but can't remember specifics...

my $AU 0.2 worth...

Two thoughts but maybe opposing. Simrad would always be my choice IF they could be counted on to stay in business. My Simrad wheelpilot is ten years old and has never had any maintenance and without a single issue. Compare that to many Raytheon/Raymarine problems recorded on the SBO site.

BUT Simrad quit making the wheelpilot. And parts are not available. Will the same happen with the tiller pilot? Looks like a vote for the Autohelm 1000.

Autohelm

We are happy with the Autohelm tiller pilot on our 7,000# '77 h27 for the past 8 years. It has simply worked with no upsets, or incidents.

I have an ST1000+ on my Mac/Venture 25. I wonder how I sailed without it before. Makes singlehanding much easier. The + will take course data from my chartplotter, even though I wired it capable, I have yet to use that function. Other than magnetic or ferrous items near it making it act crazy, performance has been flawless.
