planning on installing new st2000 tiller pilot on my '86 catalina 25.

reviewing the manual looks as though the installation is fairly straight forward; only unknown for me may be the electrical as i've not wired anything previously. just wanted to check if any advise/hints before starting. and make sure i have all necessary supplies before heading to the boat. thanks!

There are 100 ways to skin a cat... or mount a Tiller Pilot. Google Images helps, just search 'Tiller Pilot installation' or anything close to those words. I've found a dozen variations for my C22, but it seems the PO got at least one thing right with the way it was mounted on my boat. Electrical leads run into the cockpit combing compartment where a bulkhead plug fitting is located, keeps everything neatly out of the way. The brackets that mount under the tiller seem quite popular and are available as an accessory if you don't want to make your own.

I put my plug through the back wall of the coaming to keep it out of the weather. The only critical measurement is the distance of the tiller pin to the pivot of the tiller. Too little and you jput undue stress ont the pilot, too much and you won't have enough travel. I mounted the body of the pilot on the gunnel, because of the seat cushions, but needed an extention for the ram (not cheap).
