I have attached photos of the tiller on my Hunter 26. The bar on the stern railing obstructs the movement of the tiller. Anyone over 5'8" has to stoop to operate the tiller. I placed rubber tubing on the bar to protect the tiller. I have been looking for a taller stern rail piece. Any suggestions?

Suggestion:
1. Find designer or PO (whoever thought up such a rig)
2. Shoot same. :poke:
3. Take stern rail to SS welding shop and modify to suit.

UUUhhhhh the PO put in a new tiller that doesnot have enough flat run forward..A tiller that came straight out of the bracket to about the location of the cross bar then angled up would work MUCH better. Ya may want to look at some other 26's to get a better idea..

Awoody.. Interesting.. When I look at the picture of the one on the store site (#99622) for the 26, it appears to have a much longer "flat run"..and should clear the horizontal bar. Ya might want to talk to the store folks and see why yours doesn't have that pattern. Just eyeball scaling it, if the tiller is 55" long as the catalog states, you should have a horizontal run of 15" or so from the tiller box on top of the rudder.

5mins with a can of oil, a Sawzall and a file. I'd take that middle bar out. It can't be of much structural need and it certainly is in the way. Keep it simple.

I go with Soling42. It's a no-brainer.

Just-- buy plenty of blades, use plenty of oil, and allow plenty of time before getting impatient or exasperated. And file smoothly. If you cut it off flush with the uprights it won't even leave a hole into the pulpit.

Tiller Should be Symetrical

Looks sort of like this:

Forget the dots it is the only way I could get the spaces to stay
