Tiller Head Replacement?

Hi all. Do I really have to spend $600 at Catalina Direct to replace my stainless steel tiller head on my 1976 Catalina 30? Does anyone know of another place I can buy it? I keep searching on the internet and have come up with nada.

have you checked any local machine shops to see if they can fix or fabricate a new one?

Your boat is a '76? What's the hull number? My 1976 is hull 173, but doesn't look anywhere as nice as yours (but we're in the middle of a pretty deep rehab).
