I have a 1985 38 mk1 with Hall Spars. Has anyone installed the Tides track on theirs? Did you remove the original track or put the Tides track into the original track?

I don’t have a Sabre, but I do have the Tides Strong track on my O’Day 322. I purchased it and installed it when I ordered a new full-batton sail a few years ago.

What sort of track does the Sabre have? Something other than a groove of some sort in the mast extrusion? Something removable?

When I ordered mine, the vendor sent me a set of various gauges to determine what type of track I had and the size…then I gave them the gauge number that fit into the groove the best…and they made the track insert for that.

FWIW, I love the Strong Track. My sail raises easily, and comes down very easily. Additionally, I can pullModena a reef or shake out a reef without rouding up first (in most cases) because the track eliminates so much friction. They also make heavy duty, slippery SS slides. All together, a very nice package.
