Tides and Currents

Sebastian,
That's interesting. I have a 12x10 Campbell Sailor prop, and a 2.6:1
gear box. I find that at 2600 RPM (1000 prop RPM)I'm doing about 5.5
knots. This seems similar in performance to your setup. I need a new
prop soon as mine is turning pink. I'm planning on getting the same
setup.
Maybe we should add engine type, gearbox ratio, and prop specs to the
database? It would make for interesting comparisons.

Oh yes, and you're right about the "rant" :)

Hi Sebastian, Are you in the Hampton Roads on the States side of the pond or the UK side? At least I think there is a Hampton Roads on the UK side. I grew up in Norfolk (States side) and used to work in Portsmouth (also States side) I guess when good names happen in one area they also move to other areas. Anyway, the first Vega I ever saw was in one of the tidal creeks in Norfolk and I learned to sail with an Albacore on the Hampton Roads and other parts of the Cheasapeake Bay. We also met a Vega in Mexico named Lyra. Are you that Vega? Walt
P.S. What make and size of engine are you using? To: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comFrom: sekuhn@...: Mon, 17 Mar 2008 00:40:53 +0000Subject: [AlbinVega] Re: Tides and Currents

Hi Walt,

I guess I should apologize to all non-US Vega sailors for my
somewhat parochial assumptions. I am located in Hampton
Roads, Virginia, US (part of the Chesapeake Bay).
So what I said about MacENC and Mr Tides may
not be relevant/useful for people outside of the jurisdiction
of the US NOAA (I just don't know).

As far as I know, my Vega (1060) has spent most of her life
on the Chesapeake Bay (certainly since I have had her, but
even before). I renamed her "VegaLyra"; her previous name
was Java Jive, so I'm pretty sure it's not the same one you
saw in Mexico.

The engine is a 9.9 hp Vetus diesel M2.05 (a marinized
Mitsubishi engine) which is o.k. but not ideal - it's
getting hard finding parts for it and I had some
serious rust problem in the heat exchanger. I'm not
sure what my gear ratio is...

Greetings - Sebastian
